I was working on my rack and tripped over the power cable unplugging my server. Upon booting back up, the server will not talk to the default gateway. I can ping the eth0 assigned IP address, but it will not ping the gateway. Everything appears to exist properly in the conf file. I've replaced cable and changed the switch port just in case. The proper setting appear in ifconfig. Any ideas? Or should I just re-install the OS?

Sorry for the late reply, didn't see the new message earlier...

What's the output of "route"
Is your default gateway there?

Also output of "ifconfig -a" or "ip link"

You can try to re assign the gateway with
Code:
route add default gw <your-gateway>

Can you ping the machine from outside...?

No need to reinstall anything by the way Smile

Sorry for the delay, I was out of town.

I cannot contact the server from outside via ICMP, SSH, HTTTP or anything else. The only way that I have to get the info to you is to attach links to photos of the output that you asked for...sorry about that.

It is probably something simple, but I am not a command line warrior quite yet...Very Happy

ip link shows state down, meaning there is no link...
What "ethtool eth0" & "ethtool eth3" says?
Does it detect link?
You have only 2 network cards ? eth0 and eth3 can you confirm the hardware addresses?

Also you can confirm the correct ethernets from udev rules at

/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

Thanks for the help. It appears that my motherboard just died. So I get to rebuild and re-install anyway. I appreciate your time

If it's the NIC only, just replace the NIC, if it's the MB, well that's a bummer, I know the feelling I replace a lot of motherboards on mine, but as I said before no need to reinstall anything, just swap motherboards and boot SMS.

You need to edit /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules only after booting, to rename eth device as it will shown as eth4 and eth5 probably since eth0 and eth3 are from old motherboard.
