KDE freezes every time I use it. The mouse is functional for a moment or two then the mouse buttons don't work. Yet I can move the mouse around the screen

The machine is a Compaq nx5000 laptop. I choose the default mouse during the the install. Another oddity is the trackpad moves the cursor before I startx.

thanks, peasant

Hi,
can you post the "lspci" and "lsusb" output?
Also have try to use only trackpad and only mouse...?
Try to disable the trackpad and vice versa...
Moving the mouse before the startx it's normal. that's the reason you run the gpm...
If your trackpad move the cursor at no X window it's working as it should...

when I read my descriptions I'm always amazed as to how uninformative they are.

The freeze has more to do with Konqeror.

Hi,
does the trackpad buttons work?
Do you have a usb hub attached at laptop, and if you do, try to add the mouse directly to laptop...
Also can you try the livecd with the kde addon and check if it has the same behavior?
