from my windows machine.
Got to thinking about ClamAM. Is it blocking the windows machine.
Opened the desktop icon sms_config. Selected SMS secure and went to "Manage SAMBA Network access. The limit Access to private network box is checked. However Allowd host look a bit odd. It's 127. 192.168.1.1 Yes, with two spaces after 127.
Changed it to 192.168.1.1 Then checked Windows Machine's network folder. The SMS server was gone. Thinking it might help to reboot both the SMS, and windows machine.
Rechecked sms_config and it has reverted to 127. 192.168.1.1
What do you think, peasant |

If you are talking about ClamAV it's a mail virus scanner, has nothing to do with network blocking.
Also networks in samba should look like this 192.168. it's normal, it means that host allowed are 192.168.1.x as well as 192.168.2.x and so on.
So by adding 192.168.1.1 you only allow access to one machine only (192.168.1.1), so revert it to 192.168.1.
The problem ain't SMS, if you are having a fresh install, by default samba working as guest on all windows, something is blocking you in windows...
Can you connect to other machines from windows 7?

Here is a synopsis of what I can do
1. Windows machines SattelliteU840W and T500-WIN7 can access each other's files.
2. Linux machine puppypc6075 can access SMS server BluffCity SMS--Samba_SMS.
3. SMS server BluffCity can access T500-WIN7 files.
I also googled error code 0x80070035 and think I need to investigate this further.
In the mean time take a break from this. I am. I'm 61 tired and will go to work tomorrow at a dead end job that weary's my soul.
with my appreciation, peasant |

The live disk works. I can see the SMS server and can access Samba @ SMS share, TorrentFlux Download share and Faxes share folders from both of our Windows 7 machine.
Any ideas?
thanks, peasant |

Is this 32bit or 64bit install...?
I just notice latest 64bit packages of samba don't handle the config at install, so try to do
Code: | cp /etc/samba/smb.conf{.new,}
smsconfig smb rs |
and try to access shares..

I'm using 32bit on a very old Pemtium M 1.7 GHz laptop.
I tried cp /etc/samba/smb.conf{.new,} and got : No such file or directory
cp is copy, I think. Do I need to change directories or something.
thanks, peasant |

I reinstall SMS several times, the last time I accidentally left usb thumb drive in during the install. Can’t say if this is the reason for the success, but I now have a SMS server.
Prior to this last install my windows machine gave this reason for the inability to connect to the SMS server. The message stated; “[SMS server] is online but isn’t responding to connection attempt.”
At that point I opened a shell session and pinged 192.168.1.1 resulting in “ping : unknown host. “ Tried pinging my IP and google and got the same results.
I also ran route in the shell session. To be brief the output had 3 destinations loopbaqck, 169.254.0.0 and 169.254.157.191 (google 169.254.x.x)
In any case, the last install with a thumb drive connected worked!
1. I could ping to my heart’s content.
2. In shell, I ran route again. With this working install I got
Destination Gateway
Default 192.168.1.1
Loopback *
192.168.1.0 *
192.168.1.104 localhost
This is what I would expect when using a WRT54GS router.
In any case I now have an SMS server!
