Hi guys...

I have a Thin Client, and i'm trying to use the SMS Live CD on it.

I choose the "Run SMS" after boot, but during the initialization I got this:

This kernel requires the following features not present on this CPU:
cx8 cmov

Any work arround?

Thanks.

Hi,
unfortunately the last SMS.LiveCD with i486 kernel is SMS-1.4.3.
Try booting SMS-1.4.3 and see if it boots

You can install it from SMS.LiveCD, but it's recommended to use SMS.Native.CD-Install.iso
Also if you have an old machine or you want to boot your thin clients from SMS, use huge kernel which is optimized for i486 machines.

You can install latest version, but choose huge kernel.

That seem like a RAM issue, SMS.LiveCD is a little memory hungry due to all the processes running.
How much RAM do you have?

I had installed SMS on eMPIA machine but I upgrade the memory to 512 to have good results.

If it is installed you can disable services you don't need, but 256MB RAM can affect performance, the more you have the better.

See "Securing and optimizing SMS" at
http://sms.it-ccs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=317

You only need samba, ssh, bind or dnsmasq and if you are going to use torrentflux you need httpd and mysql.
You can alternative use rtorrent with wtorrent and disable httpd and mysql too.

Trying to get LiveCD up on eBOX 3300MX-GC85 using flash SD-card as boot drive.

Fresh SMS 1.6.1 hangs with kernel message about cmov not supported (i486 type CPU).

Well, found this topic, load SMS LiveCD old 1.4.3 version... Up and flying!
Some bugs (1/3 left side console is black) were worked around choosing vga=normal at boot... but I can't network due to lack of r6040.ko module for embedded RDC R6040 PCI FastEthernet NIC Sad

So, either not boot at all, or boot without network. What can I do with it?

Please help me how to REPLACE kernel (huge i486 AFAIK) in last version of LiveCD on flash card to boot with needed module on i486 CPU?
All I can found here are extra kernel sources (20-30MB size) and pure bzimages without modules... (5-6MB). What should I download, where to copy and how to change boot config file?

Sorry for typo (why this forum engine doesn't allow post editing?)
Well, now I can edit my posts, thanks Smile
