Do you know your SATA controller /Chipset or identification of motherboard?
When running setup from SMS you don't see your HDD at all?

Have you try switch in bios the sata to IDE option?
Also if you boot from live cd do you see your drives?
Once you boot from SMS.Native.CD-Install what's the output of
"cat /proc/scsi/scsi"
Do you see anything?
I'm not having a vt8237a chipset to test, but support is built in to the kernel and since slackware 12.2 installer see its, SMS should see it too.

I changed sata to ide hdd and system identified ide like a sda... Hehe! Therefore, I go ahead. 1) Then, I used a password different of "toor" during install. Does it cause any disturbance in sms default config?; 2) Three people are going to use server. I need to restrict a bit it. Can I do a normal adduser in the system?

Just take a look at
http://sms.it-ccs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=317
for securing your server and disabling services you don't need.
You can use "adduser" for adding users and also you can add them in sudoers.

First action is to change the default passwords for root and administrator user.
Just type "passwd youruser" e.g. "passwd administrator"
Do the same for ftp users.

In fact change default password is a security way. But I did it during install step. Can it cause a trouble in default config?

Sorry, newbie questions ok!!!

No, not at all, is just the password for root user, has nothing to do with server configurations.
root user in SMS.Native.CD has no password so that you add your own during setup.
toor password is set to SMS.Live.CD only and SMS.Native.CD versions prior to 1.5.1.

Dear, Gerasimos!!!

Now I`m trying to install some arquives ( qiv, scrot, zenity...) in Sbo formats and having compilation problems.

"checking for gc.. no
checking for cl.exe ... no
configure : error: no acceptable C compiler found in $ PATH
See config.log for more details"

Are there something to complete in install and Sms project to correct this problem ?
Is it permission problem on the /tmp directory , kernel-headers or glibc??
Can you help me????

Have you checked devel series during install?
If not, install them, they are the development packages needed to compile apps.

run install-package sscript under slackware/devel in you SMS.Native.CD-1.5.3-Install.iso to install them
or use slapt-get to download and install them automatically (might take a while)
Code:
slapt-get -i --ignore-excludes autoconf automake dev86 binutils bison ccache clisp cmake cscope cvs distcc doxygen flex gcc gcc-g++ gcc-gfortran gcc-gnat gcc-java gcc-objc gdb gettext-tools git gperf guile indent kernel-headers kernel-source mercurial nasm oprofile p2c pmake intltool rcs ruby strace subversion swig

Hi,

Anytime I've gotten a kernel panic msg it was because the cd or dvd was not burned at 4x speed. Just my experience.

Hope this comment doesn't insult you Smile. But when you run fdisk for sata drives it would be 'fdisk /dev/sda'.

Create partions and then run setup. All should work. I've never had SMS not recognize a drive and I've installed on about 25 different boxes. But still it does happen.

On lvm, I never have gotten it to work right in slackware Sad

post specifics and we will try to help.

good luck!

sorry about my post. There was a delay in updating web page , so my suggestions are not timely:-(

On the main install page when it asks what apps you want to install, space bar on devel line.

slap-get will work after the install quite well.

good luck

What exactly was your problem with LVM, I'm thinking uploading an .ovf with lvm setup, and a guide maybe.

Its been so long ago I don't remember the specifics. But after configuring it would not work right. Kept getting alot of errors.

A guide and ovf setup would be nice Smile

I automatically installed development packages using slapget. Unfortunatelly, there are erros yet. This is a part of output problems after chmod +x yyy.Slackbuilds:

checking for gcc option to accept ISO C89... none needed
checking for strerror in -lcposix... no
...
...
checking whether byte ordering is bigendian... no
...
checking if gcc supports -fno-rtti -fno-exceptions... no
...
checking whether -lc should be explicitly linked in... no
...
checking whether to build static libraries... no
...
checking whether to enable amd64 asm support... no
checking for freetype-config... /usr/bin/freetype-config
checking for X... libraries /usr/X11/lib, headers /usr/X11/include
checking X11/X.h usability... no
checking X11/X.h presence... no
checking for X11/X.h... no
configure: error: no X support found. Use --x-includes and --x-libraries to spe cify the X
path on your system, or --without-x to disable X support.

Is this a chmod command problem?

You don't have installed x-kde-addon (Xorg KDE) from slackware/x.
If you don't want X at all use --without-x to disable X support.
zenity, qiv, scrot are all graphics apps so you need a GUI.
Once more "slapt-get -i x-kde-addon" configure you desktop with "xconf" and do "startx" to start KDE.
