Hello,

I've tried all methods in README_USB.TXT, but the result was the same: few seconds after selecting "full", the message: <<System configuration and instalation is complete. You may EXIT setup and reboot your machine>> but in fact no package was installed.

I have used SMS64.Native.CD-2.0.8-Install.iso, SMS-2.0.8-AIO_DVD-Install.iso and also SMS64.Live.CD-2.0.8.iso modified like in README_USB.TXT.

Do you have any suggestion?

Hi,

sorry for the late reply, I just tried a test install and didn't had any problems...
Are your USB flash drive formated with FAT32?

Regards

Thank for your kind reply, it is never too late, in fact I was waiting for it.

Problem was solved by mounting the usb stick into /USBINST prior to launch the "setup" and performing the install "from a pre-mounted directory" and pointing to /USBINST/slackware64

As I could guess, the problem comes from the UEFI bios, the computer model being a Dell 780sff.

Now about the stick, FAT32/4K formated, I used both Rufus and usual format+usbboot.bat to create it, and it worked on other computers I've installed.

Check please first the file README_USB.TXT founded into the root of the installation cdrom.
Then if something not working, just ask and we'll be glad to help.

I do as is written in the file "README_USB.TXT".Use rufus, fat32 but the same problem
exist <<System configuration and instalation is complete. You may EXIT setup and reboot your machine>> then i do this << "from a pre-mounted directory" and pointing to /USBINST/slackware64 >> then same exist then i do << install from http or ftp>> then it didn't find that file but it still exist. Then it ask me do you try again if i click yes then didn't find it again if i click no then find it and shows 603 packages then select full install but were installed some gives error " http error". then o/s is installed.

Problem
1) packages not installed through usb but boot & format correctly (pen drive: 4gb scan disk & 16 gb pny)
2) Packages is installing through http but gives some error (server: use windows 7, apache 2.4.17 )
3) after installed sms, apache give this error <<Failed to start apache :
/usr/sbin/apachectl start :
httpd: Syntax error on line 473 of /etc/httpd/httpd.conf: Syntax error on line 6 of /etc/httpd/mod_php.conf: Cannot load />>
4) Why sms not use latest version of apps/softwares?
5) How do i upgrade/update to latest version of apps/softwares like php 7?

I love this o/s & i want to installed on my server but i want all the latest versions like php 7

Did you select "Install from a USB installer" when selecting source?

SMS is using php-5.4 and php-5.3 as its more stable and compatible, some hosting companies are still using 5.3 or even 5.2 be default, and if you are using web apps you should already figure it out, that when php upgrade a new major version there will be always errors and deprecated functions, and not all web apps will follow newest php version, immediately,so you will be left with no web app or a non working one...

php-6 or/and 7 will be available soon at testing if anyone wants to use it...

yes i did but same error then i did "from a pre-mounted directory" but same error then i did "from http or ftp " then didn't find that file then give me error <<try it again>> in "from http or ftp" if i click yes then again error "try it again didn't find" if i click no then find 603 slackware packeges and then start installing.

I want to test if you will provide me all the lastest versions.

Well, I had the same problem with some UEFI driven mainboards machines and here is how I solved:

Boot from the installation USB;
Configure your partitions using cfdisk or fdisk;
Create a directory let's say /usbinst (mkdir usbinst);
Find using format -l what dev is the installation USB(usually /dev/sdb1)
Mount the USB installation into this directory(mount -t auto /dev/sdb1 /usbinst);
Proceed with setup;
When asked about installation media chose "from a pre-mounted directory";
Then insert the exact path where the slackware64 is mounted(in our example /usbinst/slackware64);
Then select all package series;
Then perform a full install.

That's all.
If you'll need the development packcges, you can install manually after.

Note that you have to follow exactly the order above in one step.

Hi

I have tested so many operating system but i love SMS as a server but i have too many problem in this.Its not an automatic operating system like i make it in windows.

Automatic means once installation, configuration then put website in htdocs .Not touch in future.O/s do everthing automatically like updates. I am telling you how to do.I make in windows.If you make it as this i think this will help so much of people.

This wiill done in windows 7.

What i have done is
1) I make 2 drives one is c (for insttallation) and 2nd is d for backup or data.that means no need of backup until the hdd crashhes
2) All server apps is installed is up to date
3) google dives is the backup drive that sync automatically.I give the time 3am.
4) I have a dynamic ip so i use dns afraid site.its automatically update my ip after 5 mins
5) I mange all server through gui
and many more.i will tell you later

Problem faced in SMS
1) Not up to date (kernel and all server software/app).If there is a problem like staybility then launch it as beta version.
2) i need backup drive when the SMS is crased.All the data i need to restored after a new installation.Same SMS makes 2 drives like hda1 and hda2. hda1 for installation of SMS and hda2 for data and backup
3) No ddynamic ip updater like dns afraid site
4) There is no time server in SMS
5) APACHE IS NOT WORKING.

Dear friend,

My first operating system was CP/M more than 30 yr ago. Since then, I switched and tested various other OS-es including of course all versions of MS Windoz. There are 10 yrs since I play with Linux(Slackware particulary).
You can take my word that SMS is by far the most accurate and well maintained distribution I could find. You can also take my word that Linux is by far much friendly and flexible than any kind of Windoz can be. There is a single major issue and not related to Win or Lin but to human. If you really want to achieve the delight of controlling the Linux OS you have to want so. Windoz is a "prebuilt" system for "uncreative" users who only have to learn what to check and what to uncheck on order to obtain some predefined effects. Linux is for openminded, for users who really communicate with the OS and tell "him" how to act and what to do without owning heavy programming skills.
At this point let me not agree with you, saying about missing or not working services:
Apache IS working, the time server IS called NTPd and ddynamic IS called ddclient and there are more... They only have to be configured first according to your wishes(needs) and then started. As simple as that.
For this, the first step is to carefully consult the SMS wiki which is very explicit, and then you have the Master G(o/e ) Wink eager to answer you at any questions.
I wish you luck either you choose to learn and became a Linux Master, or prefer to remain a MS slave(follower).
I mean it and belive me me I was not into my mind to be rude or sarcastic at any point.

Hello,

first windows is not linux, mac os is not linux, mac os is not windows.

Even on windows server the terminal is a must, most of the times because the GUI missing many options...

Now on your quotes...

1. The system is stable, there is no dough on that, and security updates applied, manually as this is the recommended way, if you want to automate the procedure there is already a few functions to use on your scripts at
/etc/init.d/sms_functions

2. You can add a disk or a partition, and use a cron job to backup with rsync, it's easier and faster to backup, sync and restore, than windows.

3. there is ddclient in SMS
Code:
#Example ddclient.conf file entries:
#  ## single host update
#  protocol=freedns,                                             \
#  login=my-freedns.afraid.org-login,                            \
#  password=my-freedns.afraid.org-password                       \
#  myhost.afraid.com
#

4. there is a time server, you just need to enable it...

5. why do you say apache ain't working? What's the problem you are facing...?

It is simple, probably you run on 64bit system, so open mod_php.conf in any editor and replace:

Code:
LoadModule php5_module lib/httpd/modules/libphp5.so

with

Code:
LoadModule php5_module lib64/httpd/modules/libphp5.so

Then start Apache. (apachectl start)
