Since so much around SMS revolves around disks (I, for example, use SMS as a test NAS and a tool for recovering decayed RAID arrays) I think it should include the tools which are available in Gparted. How many times did I boot the same box first with GParted Live to fix disks then with installed-on-HDD SMS to work on the RAID arrays!

Hi,
well I don't wanna to grow distribution disk images so much, I'm trying hard to retain CD images, although I'm serious thinking a DVD image just to see how it goes...

What I have in mind for a long time, and started and left somewhere in the middle is an SMS-Rescue disk with all kernels from all versions and some extra tools (that could be those from gparted too) for maintance recovery...

A rescue (more precisely, storage forensics+rescue) disk is exactly what I was thinking about, however I am of the opinion that SMS(64) is already a rescue tool --- except that it lacks gnu partition editor, testdisk and driveimageXML/filezilla. As to the issue of inflation of disk size, I humbly submit that SMS could do without the KDE environment and instead adopt an ultra-lean GUI like that in GPartEd (just fluxbox and PCmanFM). After all, it is a server.

SMS Live CDs already have testdisk suite, parted, plus a few other tools like gptfdisk...
