|
good day
this is my firs time to use sms linux.
this is my practice unit.
I have intel celeron cpu
and 256 mb ram
onboard vga
10gb sd1
15gb sdb1
I already install sms linux up and running
but with few problem.like sharing folder in sdb1
and different user and password on each folder.
I can only share folder from sda1 using samba but no password.
it is only my test server. for now.
using SMS Native Installation CD version 1.5.5 x86
I planning it to re install it again.
my question is can I costomize sms server installation to increase
performance?
all I need is file and print server.
fax is optional but its a plus.
can u give me some link for instruction
or a pdf files, or list.
what I need to install and what I dont need.
I need to familiarize sms server, before I transfer it on
our fast server.
Im not an IT expert but i can follow instruction
I only learn linux form a diff. linux website.
thank you and more power. |

Well you can make a full install of SMS, with no problem, since it's a matter of space only.
To optimize performance and securing your SMS server just look at
http://sms.it-ccs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=317
You need at least samba and cups for file and print server.
A good guide for webmin samba configuration is available at
http://doxfer.webmin.com/Webmin/SambaWindowsFileSharing
Important changes are
"security =share" to "security=user"
convert unix users to samba users (Don't convert or remove these users: -1004)
User Synchronisation
Security and access control for every share.
You can alternative use vnc for accessing KDE it's faster and lighter that running a fool X server.
