|
|
Hello.
I am using mc(midnight commander) very often.
I sugest a slight modification in etc-13.0-noarch-2sms.txz, more precisely files /etc/profile.d/lang.sh and /etc/profile.d/lang.csh to have uncommented the instructions setting LANG as en_US by default.(on both files, line #7)
This will fix the garbage characters showed by mc(mc-20090621_git-i486-1) when accesed remotely.
Thank you. |

I think that's an issue with mc and utf-8.
UTF-8 it's a must now days and there are not much applications that don't handle UTF-8.
Despite that, locale settings it's a subjacency.
There are some patches here for UTF-8 support in midnight commander.

I completly agree about UTF-8 support.
Unfortunately, the mc package I use(mc-20090714_git-i486-1.txz), supports UTF-8 as can be seen in the official current slackware changelog here ftp://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/slackware/slackware-current/ChangeLog.txt
Quote: | ap/mc-20090514_git-i486-1.txz: Switched to a GIT repo version with support for
xz/lzma related formats, and better UTF8 support.
Thanks to David Somero for getting the initial xz patches submitted upstream.

I'll have to wait for a better mc package.
Anyway thanks for your answer. |
