I am trying to install this package and its giving me a gcc error. I installed the gcc sources.
root@random:/package/admin/daemontools-0.76# package/install
Linking ./src/* into ./compile...
Compiling everything in ./compile...
./compile byte_chr.c
gcc: error trying to exec 'as': execvp: No such file or directory
make: *** [byte_chr.o] Error 1
Copying commands into ./command...
cp: cannot stat `compile/svscan': No such file or directory
root@random:/package/admin/daemontools-0.76# cd
Am I doing something wrong? |

You might wanna take a look here
For this to work you need to patch the Makefile, you can try to build it your self with the slackbuild ( needs modification of course) or you can download the precompiled package aka daemontools.pkg ( just rename .pkg to .tgz it's a tar archive)

Well, that did not help. I keep getting compile errors. Very frustrating. I found a few docs that talk about installing djbdns on slackware, but they are older versions. Besides their steps don't work on sms.
I run a ubuntu server just to stay in touch with what is going on there. I am not a fan of ubuntu. It crashes frequently and corrupts quite easily. However, I installed djbdns in about 10 minutes on ubuntu and everything works. Go figure!
Probably, you are wondering why I am wanting to use djbdns. Well, I had a conversation some time ago with an admin at Rackspace and he said they use djbdns for security and speed reasons. He says they have never had a successful dns attack because they use djbdns. Since I want to run a community site, it seemed worth trying.
If anyone knows of a link that tells how to install djbdns on slackware 12, it would be appreciated. I have not been successful in finding it.
One last thing: I love SMS! I have a server running web site, groupware, email and dmz on a SMS server. It has been up for a year now. No problems and never been down. Now that is what I call stability!
thanks |
