In the last few days, Hylafax and avantfax has drawn on a lot of attention on SMS users, so here a little how to...
Firts of all we have to setup our hylafax server...

Edit /etc/inittab and change the line
d1:12345:respawn:/usr/sbin/faxgetty /dev/modem
to
d1:12345:respawn:/usr/sbin/faxgetty /dev/ttyS0
or use the sed command
sed -e "s,/dev/modem,/dev/ttyS0,g" -i /etc/inittab
The /dev/modem symlink is missing ( lost somewhere in the progress up ) that's why we doing that, and it's more accurate to be able to identify the line easier.

The proper way is to run faxsetup but you can skip it in SMS if you like.
Next we run faxaddmodem to add our modem and fax line details
tip: add 655 and above permissions to receive mode so avantfax be able to grap the messages
when you finish run
faxmodem ttyS0
to initiate the sending, and
/etc/rc.d/rc.hylafax stop
/etc/rc.d/rc.hylafax start
to restart the faxserver
typing faxstat you should see:
HylaFAX scheduler on sms.org: Running
Modem ttyS0 (<your number>): idle
If you don't see the above try to reboot so changes will take affect or try
/usr/sbin/faxgetty /dev/ttyS0
By now you hylafax server it's ready to receive and send faxes

For AvantFax go to SMS repository and download avantfax-3.1.4-i486-2sms.tgz
install package with
installpkg avantfax-3.1.4-i486-2sms.tgz
the install script will do the rest for you.
You will be asked for mysql's root password, if you did not add a password just press enter or if you have a password enter it at the prompt.
avantfax database has default settings
user:avantfax
pass:d58fe49
After installation completes go to http:/sms/avantfax/
username: admin
password: password
After you choose you password go to admin panel (http://sms/avantfax/admin/admin.php)
and under configure modems set
device: ttyS0 (notice we add it without /dev/ttyS0 and mind the caps)
alias: your alias
contact: your email ( mail should be registered in users config to be accepted)

well that's was it, you are now ready to start enjoy your fax server...

Avantfax has some issues by itself but the progress is fast and I believe from version 3.0.5 is workable and promising.
