Just downloaded and installed (complete) v2.09 Native. After completing install, rebooted server and came up to slackware login. Accepted root and password but can't figure out how to start SMS. Found nothing in docs... Help!

Hi,

well SMS is already started, access it from another machine on the network and point your browser at http://[IP of SMS] and you will see the server is up and running.
If you are on windows you can also point to http://sms/

To configure follow the wiki
sms.it-ccs.com/wiki/

Couldn't access that address.. either by html or ping so did another complete re-install. Still can access Slackware with "root" "password" which dumps into the standard linux prompt for root. Haven't tried to manually configure the startup but will either just configure this as my other Slackware server or just install the latest Slackware release.

Did you get an IP what's the output of

"ifconfig -a"

Also if know you way with slackware it's the same thing but with servers pre-install and pre-configured.

ifconfig shows the correct address and netmask and some traffic. ps-ax shows ftp, http, samba and other daemons running. iptables shows all "accept" along with fail2ban. This server originally had Slack 13.2 with no issues.

Seem to remember a few years ago tried an earlier version of sms that showed the sms splash screen on the terminal after bootup. I'm presuming that has changed.

Forgot to add, can ping out but not in, either by name or IP address.

Try to stop fail2ban with
smsconfig fail2ban stop

Did you check if IP is duplicate with other machine on your network?
By default there isn't a firewall...
Was this a clean install or did you install it over slackware 13.2?

Bootsplash was removed while a few versions earlier, but that was on LiveCD.

Removed Fail2ban, mysql, hylafax, cups (and a few others). Changed to a PCI NIC (from on-board) but no real change except: noticed outbound pings had terrible times, sometimes as high as 7000ms (may have been that bad originally) and had 1 inbound ping (out of 100+) that actually replied. Manually set drivers (thinking perhaps the autodetect picked a bad one, but no change. Have only been pinging by IP address.. no host names.
Original setup was server -> switch -> local PC and router/server. Changed to null cable directly to pc with no change.
Was a clean install, partitioned and formatted drive. IP address was set (no DHCP) to .150, .152 and .160 (non-occupied addresses). Machine is a Compaq Proliant with 1GB of RAM.
This is the first time I've ever seen Slackware fail to run and have been using Slack for over 7 years. Somewhat convinced it has something to do with routing but tables look right. Getting to fell dumber by the minute.
