|
|
I'm trying to install the 64-bit build of SMS 2.0.8 on a Dell 1U server with 2 quad-core CPU's. I have tried both the SMS64.Native.CD-2.0.8-Install.iso and the SMS64.Native.DVD-Install.iso. In each case, the install fails at the same point, when it starts to write packages to the hard disk.
Referring to the SMS Docs, Version 0.3.2, page 5, paragraph 3, where you choose the recommended "Full" install, the installer accepts the selection and then seems to start writing to disk. After just a few seconds, it ejects the CD or DVD and shows a screen dialog saying: "Please insert the next slackware disc." At this point, you're done, because it will not accept the same CD/DVD, or any other CD/DVD, to continue the install. You never get to the Kernel selection screen, and the only other option is to exit the installer.
When I do exit the installer, I see that a filesystem and some content has been written to my root partition(/), but the boot partition(/boot) is entirely empty. I've tried the same 2.0.8 install discs on another system, with the exact same issue. What do you think is happening??
Thanks, |

When you install from CD isos the installation CD ( SMS64.Native.CD-2.0.8-Install.iso) ask for the second disk, which is SMS64.Native.CD-2.0.8-Extra.iso.
When installing from DVD (SMS64.Native.DVD-2.0.8-Install.iso) it shouldn't ask for the second disk...
Is DVD asking you for the second disk?

Yes. The DVD is asking for another disk at that point. If I re-insert the DVD, it will not accept it and continue.
I will try the other native install disk pair again to see if I overlooked something.
Thank you,

Please check first if you can find the file named README_SPLIT.TXT inside the isolinux folder in the root of the cd or dvd iso. |

So you are saying that the problem is that the README_SPLIT.TXT exists in isolinux folder...?
Because that's the default location, to make it effective you need to put it on tree like "slackware/a" ...
By removing README_SPLIT.TXT from isolinux folder fix the issue?
