|

I've only just noticed this (had to restart the server due to installing a new KVM, got messages complaining that the clamav database is out of date).
After the server restarted, I tried checking that freshclam was running, but couldn't find any sign of it. So I tried to start it using the same command that is found in /etc/rc.d/rc.clamd:
Code: | root@sms:/etc/rc.d# /usr/bin/freshclam -d -l /var/log/freshclam.log |
When I ran that, I got the following errors:
Code: | ERROR: Can't open /var/log/freshclam.log in append mode (check permissions!).
ERROR: Problem with internal logger (UpdateLogFile = /var/log/freshclam.log). |
Looking at /var/log, all the permissions seem to be root:root, which seems fairly normal. One thing I did notice is that there was a freshclam.log.1 which had a number of entries regarding the log file having exceeded maximum allowed size. I've also noticed a few odd errors in /var/log/messages:
Code: | Dec 15 04:40:07 sms syslogd 1.5.0: restart (remote reception).
Dec 15 04:40:07 sms logrotate: ALERT - exited abnormally. |
I'm not sure how to trouble shoot this problem. What permissions should be set to allow freshclam to write to its log file? Also, what should I be looking for to track the abnormal exit of the logrotate process?

Those are the permissions, although you can view process in /var/log/maillog
Code: | chown clamav:clamav /var/log/freshclam.log
chmod 660 /var/log/freshclam.log |
Also the startup script is /etc/rc.d/rc.clamav

Thanks. That sorted it out. Not sure what could have caused the problem in the first place, but I'll keep an eye on it in future.
I notice that /var/log/messages on several SMS installations has warnings from logrotate about the process terminating abnormally. Is there anything I should be looking at there?

One of the reasons could be the missing of
Quote: | /var/log/dansguardian/access.log |
owned by nobody.nobody
Try to create it than see if error persist. |
