Which usernames and passwords you want to change?
if it's root's password for example just type
passwd root
in bash (console, terminal window)

I loaded the iso disc in my pc and booted with it. After loading lots of stuff it asked me for a user name and password before I could go any further. They are the ones I don't know. I can't get in to see the distro until I have them, or so it would seem!
Thanks

Do you have only one PC?
You can access the web GUI from another PC on your network at http://sms/ or http://[ip of your sms].
If you want KDE graphic environment you should add the kde13.lzm add on, on folder modules of your SMS.Live.CD and rebuild the iso with the provided scripts, depending your operating system.
After that when you boot into SMS, login and type 'startx' to start X window server and launch KDE GUI.
Are you familiar with linux?
What exactly you want to do with SMS?

Do you have only one PC?
Yes I have two PC's, an older one which currently runs in Linux Xubuntu and this is the one I am trying SMS on. The other PC runs with Windows XP.
Are you familiar with linux?
I am learning.
What exactly you want to do with SMS?
I thought it was an operating system and I would like to surf the internet, write emails and do photo editing, printing and possibly do some word processing. |

Well SMS it's an operating system, but categorized in servers and configured to work as a server only...
You could add a lot of packages and do what you want, but it's wiser and easier to try Slax or Zenwalk or Mutagenix or any other Slackware based liveCD, to experience the stability and performance of a Slackware system, plus if you want to learn linux, *buntu distros are not for learners to my humble opinion.

Thanks for your advice. I have tried Zenwalk but I can't get it to find my wired router to access the internet.
I have tried Slax and that does, will give http://mutagenix.org/ a try then instead!
Thank you for your help and patience!

Once SMS has loaded, I get a message:
Welcome to Linux 2.6.21.5 (tty1)
sms login: ?????

Login incorrect.
I have tried a lot of options for sms login, but none of those seem to work.
(root, admin, sms, ...)
I understand there is a web gui, but i have no idea of the

What's the "?????" on SMS login?
Do you use an non US keyboard such as Greek,Chinese,Turkish?
SMS Login should be root.
http://sms/ will work on windows PCs only. On Unix machines you must put the IP Address.
Did you get any errors while SMS is loading?

I think the problem may have something to do with the slow booting process.
The computer only has a usb 1.1 connector, I was booting from with a USB CD player.
Most of the times it doesn't finish loading SMS, and it doesn't get to
It is a motherboard with a via C3 800MHz processor. I want to use it as a nas and Torrent downloader.
Running it on a fast machine I have no problems loggin into the system with user: root and password: toor.
I'am going to try to install it on the harddisk with the fast computer and then move the harddisk to the small machine.
Thanks,
Albert |

You can copy SMS.LiveCD-1.3.7.iso on HDD and boot from CD and at boot prompt press [TAB] and add
from=/dev/[yourdisk]/SMS.LiveCD-1.3.7.iso
and press enter.
The System will boot from the .iso and its quite fast if you want to test it.
If you want to install it the same way you need to have two partitions.
