I upgraded to samba 4.0.7 a few days ago, but found it broke cifs shares on my network. Looking at the logs, I've got a number of errors in /var/log/syslog. An example...

Code:
Jul  5 16:29:32 sms smbd[29453]:   ===============================================================
Jul  5 16:29:32 sms smbd[29453]: [2013/07/05 16:29:32.077633,  0] ../lib/util/fault.c:73(fault_report)
Jul  5 16:29:32 sms smbd[29453]:   INTERNAL ERROR: Signal 11 in pid 29453 (4.0.6)
Jul  5 16:29:32 sms smbd[29453]:   Please read the Trouble-Shooting section of the Samba HOWTO
Jul  5 16:29:32 sms smbd[29453]: [2013/07/05 16:29:32.077915,  0] ../lib/util/fault.c:75(fault_report)
Jul  5 16:29:32 sms smbd[29453]:   ===============================================================

I've reverted to samba 4.0.6, which is fine, but I'm wondering what I missed when I upgraded to 4.9.7?

Paul.

What version of SMS, server role in samba and some other details would be valuable...
Although looking at your log the error seems to be from 4.0.6 version...
Jul 5 16:29:32 sms smbd[29453]: INTERNAL ERROR: Signal 11 in pid 29453 (4.0.6)

Will do some more testings, although my devel machines are working without any problem...

SMS is version is 2.0.2, but it has been fairly fully upgraded. I don't run much in the way of Samba shares - mainly so I can test things and sometimes have somewhere to hold customer files while I'm fixing machines. /etc/samba/smb.conf is as below:

Code:
 [global]
   log file = /var/log/samba.%m
   ldap ssl = No
   restrict anonymous = no
   domain master = no
   local master = yes
   preferred master = yes
   public = yes
   server string = SMS Samba Server
   max protocol = SMB2
   workgroup = IBMPEERS
   server signing = Auto
   security = user
        map to guest = Bad User
   max log size = 50
   hosts allow = 192.168.1. 127.

[Samba]
path = /home/files/data-1/samba/
read only = no
writeable = yes
browseable = yes
create mask = 0775
force create mode = 0664
directory mask = 0775
force directory mode = 0775

[FAXES]
path = /var/spool/hylafax/recvq/
read only = no

[TorrentFlux Downloads]
path = /var/smb/tflux_downloads/
read only = no

Most of my files storage is used for NFS, so I've not done too much with Samba. I'm also using the SMS server as a print server, but I'm not using the Samba printer support at the moment.

Embarassed Hadn't noticed that. Though it is very strange, since it was after I'd upgraded to Samba 4.0.7 (and I'd restarted Samba after the upgrade), so I don't really understand that at all.

Thanks. I should have some time on Monday to do some testing, so I'll put the latest Samba back in then and see if I can reproduce the problem.

I don't often look at syslog, but I was having problems with the latest Samba in Arch Linux (which is my normal day-to-day distro on the laptop) and was trying to work out where the problem was. After reverting SMS to samba 3.0.6, I've been able to access samba shares again. I'll let you know what I find when I try 4.0.7 again.

Regards, Paul.
