I was playing around with folder permissions ( /var/spool/hylafax) within the Konqueror program in an attempt to allow avantfax and the hylafax module of webmin to delete faxes in the outbox. While doing this, I screwed something up and I can no longer send faxes from hylafax when i changed the permissions from "Can View Content" to Can View & Modify Content.

I get the following error in avantfax:

Exec_sendfax error: Password:Login failed: 500 'PASS ': Syntax error, expecting password.

The fax status in avantfax is "Please Wait" even though it is correct in the /var/spool/hylafax/status folder. I'm guessing it's related to the rejected password issue?

I have been using a default "fax" username with no password for sending faxes. I also tried creating another username with password which also returns the same error. (Avantfax and sending faxes through winprint.) I thought I restored the permissions to the previous state but am still having the same issue. Inbound faxes work correctly.

How can I restore the original / appropriate folder permissions?

Any suggestions?

If it helps anyone else, rinning the following command in the shell restored outbound functionality.

Can you post /var/spool/hylafax/etc/hosts.hfaxd?
First user should be apache followed by 127.0.0.1 you can use faxadduser to edit the file or manually(check the permissions before and after)...
