Hi gerasimos_h,

I am happy to tell you that SMS is one of the nicest distros I've seen. You've done all the hard work for me ... thank you. I will be donating via PayPal shortly to thank you for all your good work.

I've just finished installing 2.0.2 on an embedded appliance. I used an external USB HDD since the internal CF card is only 2Gb.

As I was browsing the forums, I saw your note and your link to the new 3.4.31 kernel.

Can provide some guidance / help / wiki about how to upgrade to that kernel?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,
well depending on your installation, you can use slapt-get.

If it's a standard install use
Code:
slapt-get --add-keys
slapt-get -u
slapt-get -i kernel-firmware kernel-generic-smp kernel-hugesmp --ignore-excludes

If it's a full install including devel series, you might wanna upgrade gcc too.
Code:
slapt-get --add-keys
slapt-get -u
slapt-get -i kernel-firmware kernel-generic-smp kernel-hugesmp gcc gcc-g++ gcc-gfortran gcc-gnat gcc-go gcc-java gcc-objc kernel-headers kernel-source --ignore-excludes

Either way you need to create an initrd if you use it.. The above example use smp kernel, replace with non smp if you use those.

For generic kernels you need to do
Code:
mkinitrd -k 3.4.31-smp -m reiserfs:btrfs

if you use the setup.uuid setup you need to add usb support also
Code:
mkinitrd -k 3.4.31-smp -m reiserfs:btrfs:ehci_hcd:ohci_hcd:uhci_hcd

Finaly check the vmlinuz symlink in /boot or edit /etc/lilo.conf to point to your kernel (vmlinuz-3.4.31-smp or vmlinuz-generic-3.4.31-smp)

Dont forget to type "lilo" and reboot.
