Which version of SMS do you have installed?
Varnish compile with GCC-4.7 so you probably need to upgrade GCC packages in your system.

I test it in various 32bit SMS machines, but didn't test it in 64bit.
I'm gettting a segfault, meaning it's not working in SMS64.
Do you have segfaults? (Start varnish and type "dmesg |tail".)

64bit package rebuilt with --enable-debugging-symbols and strangely that fix the segfault for now.
