I continue doing my crazy experiments on system)). My qualification is higher than common user, but very less than Linux administrator)), thus I have some questions accumulated, part of them may be bit off-topic of SMS server and links to hardware or other application programs ))

- I’m going to try use CF-card with CF/SATA adapter instead of HDD as “SSD”. What are recommendations to extend life of it, as we know it has limited write cycles. I have 2Gb ram installed and want it as r/w buffer. Some forum posts or else done on my site on SMS I want to be accumulated in RAM and then flushed to CF, for example, once per hour. Which directories are most often written to by the system? By the way, where does MySQL store my forum database?

-How can I easily backup all my adjusted system in order to restore it quickly? I’ve read about remastersys, or is it only for Debian?

-Where can I get suitable Transmission with web interface for torrent downloading?

Thank you)

/var and /tmp directory have constant writes, also mysql databases are held in
/var/lib/mysql/.
Of course depending on your applications /home may have some activity too.

To backup you can tar directories once in a while, webmin has a backup feature.
Vital directories are /etc/ and /var/.
remastersys it's for debian, if you want to remaster use linux-live-scripts, same way LiveCD is built.
You can dowload working copies for recent kernels at

For 32bit
http://www.mediafire.com/file/3u810y447u26k52/linux-live-6.3.0.tar.bz2
For 64bit
http://www.mediafire.com/file/lg2l59bnd9755ma/Linux-live-6.3.0x86_64.tar.bz2

Transmission can be built from a slackbuild
http://slackbuilds.org/repository/13.37/network/transmission/
Why don't give Rtorrent a try?
I'm using it for the last years and I'm pretty satisfied.

You need to install packages in extra/rtorrent+wtorrent at
http://sms.it-ccs.com/isos/index.php?dir=SMS64-Current%2Fextra%2Frtorrent%2Bwtorrent%2F
or use slapt-get
Code:
slapt-get -i libsigc++  libtorrent rtorrent lighttpd xmlrpc-c

Start rtorrent with
/etc/rc.d/rc.rtorrent start

To access wtorrent navigate at http://yourserver:81/install.php to setup your users.
