I saw that the KDE can be added directly to the available ISOs and then rebuild them to have it available on the live CD. I did it and it worked very well.

Now, a curiosity.
Will the command:

Code:
lzm2dir [lzm_package.lzm] /

work for the installation of the KDE environment on headless systems already up and running? Would it be enough to reboot? Or even without rebooting at all?

Example... CD live headless + USB disk containing the KDE lzm module... means live plus KDE (temporary).

Thanks,
Max

If you install SMS.Live.CD you can install kde addon with 'lzm2dir' or install x-kde-addon-1.0-i486-1sms.tgz from SMS.Native.CD with 'installpkg'.
Fo you to be able to uninstall KDE you must install the x-kde-addon package so later on, you can remove it with 'removepkg'

If you want temporally to install KDE and Xorg there is no need, since you can boot with SMS+XORGKDE+DEVELPKGS and compile your app or test things.

Thx for the infos.

in the last part of your answer, do you mean that with the Native CD, booting with this additional parameter:

Code:
SMS+XORGKDE+DEVELPKGS

will start it live plus KDE and Xorg?

If yes, sorry for not catching it before.

Thax,
Max

Nope, not quite...
If you place kde14.lzm and develpkgs.lzm in folder modules of SMS.Live.CD and rebuild the iso you can boot with those three.

A trick that's already be spoken before, place the rebuilding iso in you disk and boot SMS.Live.CD with parameter from=/dev/(yourdisk)/your.iso.
You will be surprised Wink

Oh, ok.. that I knew also before (read on linux-live.org).
The other magic is the savedata files that you provided.

Thank you for clarifying the topic once more... I'm still learning.

Very Happy

Bye,
Max

Hi gerasimos_h,

I'm new here. I dunno what is meant by 'rebuild the iso'; what are the steps?

Actually I'd copied the /sms and /boot into a USB with the kde160.xzm in the modules folder. It booted ok but when I tried 'starx', the screen went black with a few horizontal lines. I'm using eeepc 1000H. The text are showing fine on the command line. But the X/kde doesn't seem to work.

Kindly advise. thank you!

In your situation, you don't have to rebuild anything.
Once you login type "xconf" to configure your X window and after type "startx".

You can have permanent changes in USB using changes parameter.
1. Download
http://sms.it-ccs.com/isos/SMS.Native.CD/extra/savedat.zip
2. Unzip your desirable size image in /sms/ directory
3. Edit /boot/sms.cfg like
Code:
APPEND vga=791 initrd=/boot/initrd.gz changes=/sms/save.dat ramdisk_size=8888 root=/dev/ram0 rw
