Sorry to post under wrong headline, but couldn't find any better.

I got stuck at a problem that probably is so elementary that I get ashamed.

I tried to supply the Live CD 1.5.3 with graphic interface and Webmin by adding kde151.lzm and virtuemin.lzm to the /sms/modules folder and rebuilt the iso. -It refuses to boot: "Image checksum error", boot failed

md5 of all files are OK. If I remove kde and webmin the CD boots allright. Guess the failing checksum might be the one from the original iso, but can't find or change it.

Best regards
Lars

Are you using any kind of iso editors to rebuilt the iso such as magiciso, poweriso e.t.c.?
Use make_iso.bat and burn CD in a lower speed and try again.

Very Happy You were right: Poweriso! I guess it couldn't adjust the checksum to the new iso (wherever the checksum-info is situated?).

The LiveCD now boots, but there seems to be an error with the virtuemin.lzm:
a clip from the startup sequence
Code:
* -----> modules/kde151.lzm
Cannot read module data, corrupted download

Guess it means that kde151 was installed allright, but not virtuemin?
My reason for that assumption is that when I run the SMSCD on a machine (AMD64) 1,8 GHz 2 G Ram I can start the graphic interface.

I've checked md5 on all files downloaded and they are allright, tried burn it again, slower, same result. -Perhaps I can leave it as is, because I can reach webmin from Konqueror?

There is however another problem: I cannot seem to run SMS properly from an older machine 500MHz 512 MB. Perhaps You'ld want me to start another thread for that?

Best regards, and Thanks
Lars

Virtuemin module is old and deprecated and deliberately didn't convert it to new squashfs format for not confusing users.
Look at
http://sms.it-ccs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=424&highlight=virtualmin
for info on installing virtualmin current version on your running system to test it.

If you want to install SMS on old machine use SMS.Native.CD, SMS.Live.CD will boot up with errors, since 512MB RAM is not enough sometimes ( for LiveCD), due to all the services running at boot.

OK, that's about what I thought, since the bootup took round 20 min's and often hanged at different stages. And, even after successful login in textmode it couldn't change directory in 10 min's.

But, about installing it on HDD in my P II-machine there are two error reports that worries:

Code:
Error Could not start server. Maybe an old socket file is still present. Try to remove
/var/run/fail2ban/fail2ban.sock. If you used fail2ban-client to start the server, adding the
-x option will do it

Starting proftpd..
Time................fail2ban.server : INFO Starting Fail2ban v0.8.4
Time................fail2ban.server : INFO Starting in daemon mode

and Xserver error:
Code:
XOrg X Server 1.6.1
.........

(==) Log file: "var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time
(==) Using config file "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
Parse error on line 87 of section Files in file /etc/x11/xorg.conf
   Ignoring obsolete keyword "RGBPath"
(EE) Failed to load module "type1" (modules does not exist, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module "freetype" (modules does not exist, 0)
(EE) Vesa(0): No matching modes
(EE) Screens found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

Do You think that my old pentium machine, as a whole, is feasible for installation of the S*M*S? It's a PII 500MHz with 512MB ram, graphic card ATI 3D Rage Pro and screen Packard Bell PnP 7480. I've had RedHat 7, Mandrake 10, Fedora and kept SuSE9.3 installed on it, SuSE with the 'ati' graphic module. -It's my normal server, both for Win and Linux.

I couldn't find where I read it right now, but remember there are two different ways for installation: From LiveCD with text-installer (requires about 500MB HDD-space + swap?) or from Native CD (requires about 3GB HDD-space + 1 GB swap?). Which one would You recommend?

Finally, You don't recommend dual boot installation? Does it often give errors?

Best regards
Lars

All the errors from LiveCD boot will gone after installing, but I recommend always using SMS.Native.CD for installation, that's it's purpose.

Have you run "xconf" before running "startx"?

Since it's a server there is no point of dual booting a server, but you can use dual boot, both installation methods support it, either LiveCD or NativeCD.
In NativeCD just DON'T choose "Automatically Install LILO".
