I got an ION330Pro to use as a relatively low-power file, mail and possibly web server (haven't actually decided what I am going to do with it), and chose SMS. The system has the base hardware except that I added another identical HDD and set up RAID1 using the Nvidia boot tool. I'm using the native install CD 1.4.8. I have tried to install multiple times with different options with the same effect...I get the "Reboot and Select proper Boot device" message after finishing the install and then rebooting.

I use cfdisk to create 3 primary partitions (linux (/), linux swap, linux (/home)), then write the partition table, quit cfdisk and run setup. Then I just run through the setup as normal, selecting swap partition, formatting root (ext3) and the partition for /home (ReiserFS). These are about 8.4GB, 1GB and 310GB respectively on the 320GB Mirror. I select source, packages, install and configure. Then it tells me it's finished installing so I just quit and reboot.

To the best of my newbie knowledge, I've followed through with the installation process correctly and it should now boot where I can start KDE or w/e, but nada. Is there something I am doing wrong?

It's interesting to note that if I hit enter at the select boot device message after installing, it outputs "L 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A etc." to about halfway down the screen.

Hi,
have you mark your boot partition bootable in cfdisk?
Did you use auto lilo install or manual configured?
Enter your SMS CD, and assuming your root partition (/) is /dev/sda1 and you install default kernel,
type at boot prompt
"hugesmp.s root=/dev/sda1 noinitrd ro"
boot to your system and type cfdisk to mark it bootable or edit your /etc/lilo.conf if it's wrong and type 'lilo' when finish.

The partition (sda1) was marked bootable in cfdisk and I used the auto-configured lilo install option. Is there something I'm specifically looking for in the lilo.conf file that might produce the boot problem? It is already specified to boot the from /dev/sda with root /dev/sda1.

Thanks for the help!

Try to boot to your newly install system from the cd with
"hugesmp.s root=/dev/sda1 noinitrd ro"
After it boots do a 'lilo -v3' and post the output if it doesn't boot on reboot.
Also check 'cat /proc/scsi/scsi' 'cat /proc/partitions'

If all else fails try adding
raid-extra-boot=mbr-only
in /etc/lilo.conf and run 'lilo' once more.

When I tried adding ‘raid-extra-boot=mbr-only’ line to lilo.conf and running lilo it said “Fatal: Not a RAID install, ‘raid-extra-boot=’ not allowed”.

Here is the output from the other commands:

Boot once more from CD and run "lilo -z -M /dev/sda" and 'lilo -v3' and post the output in case it doesn't boot.
I assume you have created Hardware raid through RAID BIOS config.
Try a 'cfdisk /dev/sdb' to see if you can see the other disk, you shouldn't.
You can create a software raid though, from what I'm reading for ION controllers, software raid is faster.
Another option is to upgrade the kernel to 2.6.33.1 from SMS-Current in case there is a new driver for this board.
