SMS-1.6.2 brings updates, security patches and the latest stable releases, such as httpd-2.2.21, php-5.3.8, perl-5.14.2, bind-9.8.1, postfix-2.8.5, clamav-0.97.2, dovecot-2.0.15, MailScanner-4.84.3_1 and last but not least samba-3.6.0 with SMB2 support. Samba's "Security = share" is deprecated and will not work with SMB2, although is set in smb.conf, but it's enough to get you started, look at SMS wiki on how to switch to "Security = User". Also "client ntlmv2 auth yes" is set by default. Dovecot needs your attention, since lot of deprecated options are removed, so you might wanna take a look at incoming *.new files and compare them with yours. To upgrade your dovecot.conf just do "doveconf -n -c /etc/dovecot.conf > /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf" A lot of options have changed, more info at http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Upgrading/2.0 SMS-1.6.2 features smbldap-tools, a set of perl scripts designed to manage user and group accounts stored in an LDAP directory, making Samba & OpenLDAP configuration easier. Configuring your system's ${hostname}.${domain} through netconfig or netconfig-lcd will set smbldap-tools as well. Netatalk updated to version 2.1.6 and there is available version 2.2.1 under testing folder in SMS.Native.CD-Extra which has support for Lion + Time Machine. New packages in SMS.Native.CD-Extra.iso are a directory called LinuxDVR which includes ZoneMinder, owfs and digitemp an open source CCTV security and surveillance suite, Zabbix network monitoring suite, darkstat network traffic analyzer, mailwatch web GUI front-end to MailScanner and apcupsd daemon for controlling APC UPSes. 32bit version of SMS.LiveCD now use a i486 kernel to be able to boot on thin clients and old machines. SMS-1.6.0 it's based on Slackware-13.37 and ships with linux kernel 2.6.37.6 to honor our compatibility with new Slackware release, 2.6.38.4 kernels are available at http://sms.it-ccs.com/isos/index.php?dir=SMS.Native.CD%2Fextra%2Fkernels%2FSMS-2.6.38.4%2F for anyone wishing to run a newer kernel. SMS-1.6.0 brings new optional features in Extra CD such as DLNA support either with fuppes or mediatomb and computational clustering. SMS installer now offers btrfs support and GPT partitioning, and also a PXE server for network installations right off the SMS.Native.CD-Install.iso, but beware don't activate the PXE Boot Server if you are not going to use it, because it will mess up the installer. New packages in this release are btrfs-progs, lrzip, gdisk for GPT partitions scheme, rrdtools, mc the famous midnight commander, openmpi A High Performance Message Passing Library, enchant, idnkit, dovecot-pigeonhole, iwlwifi-100-ucode, iwlwifi-6xxx-ucode, iptraf-ng which replace iptraf. The size of the Live CDs grown a bit since it now includes an mpi.xzm featuring openmpi, gcc, gcc-g++, gcc-gfortran, kernel-headers and binutils for running mpi apps. SMS.Live.CD-1.6.0 comes with kernel 2.6.38.4 just for the fun of it, and brings new boot options featuring PXE Boot Server for booting SMS over the network, a mode for booting SMS with all servers disabled and a Computational Cluster Master Node mode which will start a PXE Boot Server for booting slave nodes for running mpi applications. New packages in this release are db46 (this the default bdb for SMS from now on, so you might wanna migrate your db4.4 databases to db4.6), lxc, libcgroup, nss-mdns, util-linux (replace util-linux-ng) and yasm. New packages in extra are the avahi directory which includes, avahi, libdaemon, nss-mdns with avahi support and imlib2 which is mostly for sharing photo libraries through avahi to iPhoto or FronRow on a Mac or to an AppleTV. Important changes for those who upgrading is db46, netatalk and openldap compile against db46, so you need to migrate your databases from version 4.4 to 4.6. For netatalk there is guide for doing that, at http://netatalk.sourceforge.net/2.1/htmldocs/upgrade.html#choosecnidscheme For Openldap I include an sms-migrate_db script for doing that. Backup you databases and type "sms-migrate_db /var/lib/openldap-data" before starting ldap server, you can alternative do it manually by typing "cd /var/lib/openldap-data; db44_checkpoint -1; db44_recover; db44_archive; db_archive -d;" Also don't forget util-linux-ng which was replaced by util-linux. On SMS64 added 64bit packages for rtorrent with wtorrent r109, which already existed in SMS. SMS.Native.CD is always recommended for installing SMS on your machine. So "Superb Mini Server Project" it is, new logos are on the way and a new mascot (might take a while). gerasimos_h ----------------------------------------------------- 05-06-2010 -- SMS64 1.5.1 Released! ----------------------------------------------------- SMS64 version 1.5.1 released! (Linux Kernel 2.6.33.4 x86_64). I'm in the pleasant position announcing the first 64bit release of Slack Mini Server. SMS64-1.5.1 based on Slackware64-13.1, it has Xorg server 1.6.3 from Slackware64-13.0 and KDE-3.5.10 packages from Slamd64-12.2. SMS64-1.5.1 follows SMS-current with two new packages, tcl and hfsutils, upgraded tk, hplip and Openbravo packages. Also some changes to netatalk default configuration to not use adouble:osx but default v2, and fixing the installer to install sarg package. This release is a pure 64bit release all packages recompile to x86_64 architecture. Extra CD has openbravo, ndiswrapper, egroupware, avantfax and usermin packages for now, more to come. SMS64-Current tree is available at http://sms.it-ccs.com/isos/SMS64-Current or via slapt-get. The whole development was and is, on an old Intel D101GCC board with a Celeron 3.06GHz and 1GB RAM and I must say it was quite discouraging, considering php package taking an hour and a half to compile and above three hours for kernel to compile. If someone has an old prescott CPU S775 with 64bit capabilities in his closet and willing to donate or trade with an Intel Pentium 4 560 @ 3.6GHz with no 64bit capabilities please let me know. SMS64 LiveCD is on development. Enjoy!
